A native of Saint Helena Island, South Carolina, CSM Emma M. Krouser began her Army career at Fort Jackson, South Carolina for Basic Training in January 1989. She attended the Basic Journalist Course at the Defense Information School, Fort Benjamin Harrison, IN from April thru June 1989.
Her first assignment in Public Affairs was with the Public Affairs Office, Fort Lee, VA. She went on to serve with the 501st Corps Support Group, Camp Red Cloud, Uijongbu, South Korea; 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, KY; two assignments with the 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, GA; 1st Signal Brigade, Seoul, South Korea; the Army Public Affairs Center, Fort Meade, MD, and as sergeant major of the 10th Press Camp Headquarters which activated in the fall of 2005 at Fort McPherson, GA. The unit relocated to Fort Bragg in 2008 after returning from Iraq. She is currently the command sergeant major for the Defense Information School, Fort Meade, MD.
CSM Krouser deployed to Kuwait with the Public Affairs Office, 3rd Infantry Division (Mech.) in November 2002 and into Iraq in March 2003. Her second deployment was as sergeant major of the 10th Press Camp Headquarters in Baghdad to run the Combined Press Information Center from September 2006-September 2007.
CSM Krouser’s military education includes the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, Fort Bliss, TX; Advanced Noncommissioned Officers Course, Fort Meade, MD; Basic Noncommissioned Officers Course, Fort Benjamin Harrison, IN, and the Primary Leadership Development Course, Fort Knox, KY.
Her civilian education consists of a Bachelor of Science in Communications Studies from the University of Maryland University College. She has a Master of Arts in Communications Management with emphasis in Public Relations from Webster University.
CSM Krouser's awards and decorations include the Army Service Medal, Good Conduct Medals, two National Defense Service Medals, eight Army Commendation Medals, six Army Achievement Medals, NCO Professional Development ribbon (with numeral 4), Meritorious Service Medals (with 4 OLC), a Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal (with 2 bronze stars), Overseas Service Ribbon (with numeral 3). She also received the Presidential Unit Citation while assigned with 3rd Infantry Division (Mech.) and the Joint Meritorious Unit Award while deployed with Multi-National Force - Iraq.
