Commandant
Colonel Martin is a native of Louisiana and a Distinguished Military ROTC graduate of Grambling State University. Colonel Martin’s most recent assignment was as the Senior Military Assistant in the office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs, Pentagon, Washington, D.C. where he served as an advisor to the Assistant Secretary on major issues requiring policy determinations related to the department’s communications. In that role he coordinated daily with the White House, Interagency, and the Military Service Public Affairs Chiefs on behalf of the Assistant Secretary and the Department of Defense.
Deputy Commandant
Lieutenant Colonel William M.G. Manley assumed his current duties as Deputy Commandant, Defense Information School, in July 2009. He helps lead the institution that serves as the Department of Defense school and center for public communication, responsible for training all U.S. military, selected foreign military and civilian public affairs and visual information professionals.
Provost
Michael Gannon is the Provost at the Defense Information School at Fort Meade, Maryland. He assumed this position in May 2009, after serving as the Director of Instructional Support and then, Assistant Commandant at the School. As the Provost he serves as the senior advisor to the School Commandant on matters of academic policy, governance, accreditation, and provides oversight for management of support services - course and curriculum development, registrar, quota management, school operations, logistics, budget, contracting, and personnel services.
Director of Staff
Jimmie L. Bell is the Director of Staff at the Defense Information School. He assumed this position in March 2007, after serving three years as Deputy Director of Training. In this capacity he oversees all staff actions, quality assurance, command group functions, and he ensures operating policies and procedures are developed and followed. Prior to assuming duties at Director of Staff, he served as Deputy Director of Training; Department Head, Broadcasting and Video Production Department; and Chief of Radio Production Skills.
Command Sergeant Major
Emma M. Krouser
is a native of Saint Helena Island, South Carolina, and began her Army career at Fort Jackson, South Carolina for Basic Training in January 1989. She attended the Basic Journalist Course at the Defense Information School, Fort Benjamin Harrison, IN from April thru June 1989.
